WWDC 2013: Apple Officially Introduce OS X Mavericks

Apple have now officially unveiled its next-generation desktop operating system named OS X Mavericks. The new OS which will run on Apple’s desktop devices was originally joked about with them explaining that the lack of big cats caused an issue when naming it. However, don’t let the name fool you; the next-generation of OS X is full of new features to play with and offer more overall functionality.

 

OS X Mavericks is the first of Apple’s desktop operating systems to introduce “tagging”, this enables you to add a tag to a file along with locations and name. This means that when searching for a file you can search “important” and all files tagged with that will appear. This aims to offer better functionality throughout the OS and allow you to find documents etc, the tags will appear within the sidebar of finder. faster with more simplicity. The new version of OS X will also enable tabs within the finder throughout OS X.

 

Apple then went on to introduce a new feature which really got the crowd of developers going, this was the addition of better multiple monitor support. Apple showed of these new features along with an Apple TV; which also got an appraise from the crowd of engineers and developers. An Apple TV can now work alongside your Mac as a fully powered display; amazing! This means that if you do not want to invest in an entirely new display then your Apple TV can do it for you. Multi-display will allow users to view a menu in Finder on two displays allowing users; this will enable easy use of applications.

 

Along with better multi-display support Apple also announced modifications to Mission Control to enable users to send applications from one display to another with ease. Another new feature named Timer Coalescing will help towards smoother and less CPU activity. Compressed Memory, another new feature introduced, will compress inactive memory and make room for active applications to run.

 

Along with the updated OS Apple have also made some changes to its Safari web browser. One huge social feature is called “Shared Windows”, this enables you to view links shared by Twitter friends and easily navigate to them; although, no support for Facebook was mentioned on stage. A redesigned sidebar enables you to easily view bookmarked pages and your reading list.
